Just the Bear Facts About Big Bear
Mountain Resort Real Snow. Real Close!
Where else in the middle of winter can you relax on a sunny beach and then decide to jump in your car and go skiing just two hours away? Only in Southern California, of course! Awaiting you in the local mountains is So Cal’s largest and closest winter destination resort, Big Bear Mountain Resorts (BBMR), Skiers and snowboarders can choose to spend their time at one or both of BBMR’s ski areas, Snow Summit Resort or Bear Mountain Resort.
Snow Summit provides a traditional alpine atmosphere with intermediate and mainstream cruising runs for skiers and snowboarders. Bear Mountain offers a youth focused environment that attracts skiers and snowboarders from around the world. Both resorts offer diverse terrain, providing skiers and snowboarders a combined 438 developed acres, 26 lifts (including 4 high-speed detachable quads) and more than 55 runs. Lift tickets are good at both resorts, which are located just two miles apart and conveniently connected by a free Inter-Resort Express Shuttle Service.
BBMR’s dedication to outstanding guest service, including selling a limited amount of lift tickets daily to avoid overcrowding, and a consistent quality snow surface, provide the perfect atmosphere for memorable skiing and snowboarding. BBMR is also committed to ensure guests have the most up-to-date weather, road and snow conditions with a variety of informative reports. Check out live cams as you watch all the action right on your computer. Daily/weekly photos are available, along with contest and visiting pro video, website reports, and powder alert text reports (text SNOW to 52406). Free email report, with snow alerts, is also available. Your birthday is special, right? BBMR agrees and wants you to ski or ride free on your day! Just present a valid photo I.D. on your actual birthday to the Guest Services Office.
But how do you choose which resort will be the best place for your family to spend its day? Let us help you decide, because each has its own distinctive features. Snow Summit features skiing and family activity, as well as night skiing, and Bear Mountain Resort shines as the preeminent snowboarding destination. The two are located so close together that your older kids can head over to Bear Mountain for more advanced snowboarding while the rest of you stay at Snow Summit. Lunch on the deck at Summit Haus Restaurant is the perfect spot to rejoin and hear one another’s downhill stories.
Snow Summit Mountain Resort
Snow Summit provides the premier mountain resort experience for everyday skiers and riders in pursuit of wide-open groomed runs and picturesque alpine views. Ego Trip Park offers even more terrain park features for all abilities. The Wall, Dicky’s and Olympic runs serve up challenging, steep terrain for advanced skiers and riders, while Miracle Mile and Log Chute are ideal intermediate cruisers.
Snow Summit is also home to the Family Park, the resort’s slow skiing and riding zone with low-intermediate terrain, designed especially for kids, parents, grandparents, mini-shreds or anyone looking for a mellow cruise. The Family Park expands across five trails for skiers and snowboarders who want to challenge their freestyle skills.
Night Skiing is Magical!
Night skiing is open at Snow Summit. Hit the lights! Snow Summit continues its tradition of nighttime winter-sports fun. Night skiing and riding at Snow Summit has been a popular attraction for many years. Following day skiing on scheduled nights (most Fridays, Saturdays and holiday periods beginning at 3 p.m.), the resort typically keeps open three top-to-bottom runs, including Ego Trip Park and a large, lift-served beginner area. Night sessions at Snow Summit take on a unique and intriguing atmosphere, an experience quite different from day skiing and riding. Take advantage of a less expensive area use ticket, virtually nonexistent lift lines and more room on the runs. Additionally, Summit Inn and Bullwheel Bar are open for both food and beverages while the lifts are running. Skiers and riders can also turn their night ride into a jib jam with freestyle features for young riders who make it their evening scene. The terrain features on this run are refreshed and groomed after every day session for premium night riding.
