The Happiest Place on Earth Celebrates 50 Years of Magic
Generations of families are revisiting the Happiest Place on Earth, recalling their fondest memories and creating new ones, as the Disneyland Resort kicks its 50th anniversary festivities into high gear in 2006.
The crowns atop the Sleeping Beauty Castle shine, an enhanced Space Mountain rockets through space, and favorite Disney characters dance, sing and bring joy as the ‘Happiest Homecoming on Earth’ continues to pay tribute to the creator of it all – Walt Disney. The celebration gets a monstrous boost in early 2006 when “Monsters, Inc: Mike and Sulley to the Rescue,” is introduced at Disney’s California Adventure. This innovative ride-through attraction brings the characters of Monsters, Inc. and the city of Monstropolis to life. Set in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot area of the Park, this new ride will become a signature attraction at Disney’s California Adventure.
Also set to open in early 2006, is the new luxury Mandara Spa in Disney’s Grand Californian, one of three Disneyland Resort hotels. The spa will be comprised of treatment rooms and a couples suite accented with Balinese-inspired art and textiles. Additional features of the spa will include a fitness center, men's and women's changing lounges, steam rooms and a sophisticated “nail spa,” offering a complete array of services in a single setting.
The Downtown Disney District also showcases a new addition – the first flagship Anne Geddes Retail Store. Guests can now view selections of Anne’s large, art-quality prints displayed in a “viewing gallery,” and enjoy a broad range of items from the Anne Geddes line, many of which are appearing for the first time and exclusive to the store.
The 50th anniversary festivities have brought new additions to both Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure parks, including the new Walt Disney’s Parade of Dreams, featuring the largest cast of Disney characters ever assembled. In Tomorrowland, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, a comical interactive space mission, lets guests take control by competing with other guests who are also trying to save the galaxy!
The anniversary party rocks at Disney’s California Adventure park with “Block Party Bash,” featuring upbeat, energetic dance music and instant celebrations where guests find themselves surrounded by the crew from “Monsters, Inc.,” Lilo and Stitch, and Flik and Princess Atta from “A Bug’s Life.” The exciting line-up of new attractions, shows and parades shines a new light on the classic magic of the Disneyland Resort.
With the 50th anniversary celebration in high gear, it is a party not to be missed and a chance to become part of history in the making at “The Happiest Homecoming on Earth.”
