Downtown Disney® District, a pulsating, vibrant entertainment and dining outdoor promenade also gets in on the party with musical acts, great restaurants and shopping through out the district.

In celebration of this golden Disney moment, exciting new attractions and parade's are being added to the Resort's theme parks. In Disneyland ® park, the interactive Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters puts you in command of your very own Star Cruiser. Rides
Disneyland® Park opens its highly anticipated update of Space Mountain (relaunched July 15, 2005), with all new sites and sounds to dazzle the senses. A renovated launch system replaces the old slow crawl to top. 'Toy Story' fans flock to the Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, an interactive video game-like attraction in which guests score points shooting at targets with laser guns and try to eliminate the Evil Emperor Zurg.

Attractions and Fireworks
The birthday bash also includes a new look for Sleeping Beauty Castle, with gold fabric bunting decorating her towers and a crown sitting on each of the five turrets, honoring the five decades of Disneyland history. Fans flocking to the Main Street Opera House enjoy a brand new exhibit, Disneyland: The First 50 Years, featuring archival photos, original park designs, recently discovered film footage and plans for rides that never made it to the Happiest Place on Earth. At the end of each day, visitors experience a new fireworks display titled, 'Remember... Dreams Come True,' hosted by Julie Andrews, and featuring a pyrotechnic Tinkerbell actually flying around Sleeping Beauty Castle -- just like on the old Disney TV show. The fireworks show begins around 8:45PM.

Parades
The 50th anniversary also calls for a new daily parade on Main Street, with Walt Disney's Parade of Dreams featuring more than 100 performers and four performance stops along the route. Led by Tinkerbell and other Disney magic makers, the new parade includes floats with characters from 'Beauty and the Beast,' 'Pinocchio,' 'The Little Mermaid,' and 'Alice in Wonderland.' The final float features a host of Disney princesses and, of course, Mickey and Minnie.

The 1955 Experience
If you want to explore the original attractions in Disneyland that have been around since it's opening year, here's the list of all the must-do classics: Autopia, Casey Jr. Circus Train, Disneyland Railroad, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, Fire Engine, Jungle Cruise, King Arthur Carousel, Mad Tea Party, Main Street Cinema, Mark Twain Riverboat, Peter Pan's Flight, Snow White's Scary Adventures and Storybook Land Canal Boats. -- Christopher Cappiello (Photo: Courtesy of Disneyland)

As Mickey Mouse's kingdom and the crowning jewel of Walt Disney's marketing vision, Disneyland is one of the best-known and most-beloved destinations in the world. Long ago the park dubbed itself "The Happiest Place on Earth," and even the most hardened cynics agree that there's some truth to the slogan. After all, the Magic Kindgom is where fairy tales come to life. Many of the park's original rides, like Snow White's Adventure and Peter Pan's Flight, continue to charm visitors in spite of their old-fashioned flavor. Newer rides such as Indiana Jones Adventure, Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin and Space Mountain, are tamer than the high-octane thrills at Knott's Berry Farm and Six Flags, but that's beside the point. Disney rides are not about G-forces, but rather about detailed, immersive environments that reward repeat riders -- it's impossible even after three trips through the Haunted Mansion or Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin to see everything, which is why so many park visitors buy annual passports so they can keep coming back.

The Big Thrills
As always, pyrotechnic displays and production shows remain spectacular. Don't miss Fantasmic! and the host parades. Of the rides, Splash Mountain and Indiana Jones provide the most thrills. Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, which opened in March 2005, also has new zap-it appeal for trigger-happy crowds. Longest line for 2005: After being closed for eons in Disneyland time, the newly renovated Space Mountain reopens during Disneyland's 50th anniversary celebration.

Attrtaction Closings
Maintenance is of course an ongoing process and while Disney is very good about keeping all of those family favorites operating, there are the occasional "Closing" of some attractions. Check our Disneyland Weekend Calendar for current closings.

Did You Know?
More people visit Disneyland on the day after Christmas than any other day in the year. It's a good time to come, too; the thousands of baubles and holiday-cheerful decorations are still up around the park, giving the park a seasonal glow. Don't forget that Santa hat with Mickey ears!
