Answer: Fun, Sun and Sand

Question: What is a SoCal Holiday

I was at our local warehouse store the other day, which has become a family outing as much as a shopping trip. As we strolled into the main concourse and past the books, I caught the faint sound of a melody I thought I recognized emanating from somewhere deep within the store. As we sauntered further down the aisle, the melody was, indeed, very familiar. We peaked around the baked goods isle and there it was, standing majestically in front of a group of mesmerized shoppers - A SINGING CHRISTMAS TREE…, but, I murmur, “It’s only September. Seems like I just got the last of last year’s Christmas put away!” Actually I love the holiday season and if not for the singing Christmas tree, the seasons would seamlessly blended from summer to fall completely unnoticed. You see, SoCal weather is sunshine all the time, which is probably why you’re here. “I totally get it,” as local dialogue would articulate. Around here, Santa struts in board shorts and shades - no red furry coats anywhere. In fact, at this writing, I haven’t pulled out a coat in so long it probably doesn’t fit anymore! Of course, Southern California is beautiful in any weather, even rain – now if we could just get a little rain, but I digress. You’re here for the sunshine and as you read this, I hope that’s exactly you’re getting.

Of course, no visit to SoCal would be complete without visiting one of our major attractions, especially during the holiday season. The big attractions pull out all the stops to lure you and your family to the gate. So, to help you filter through the noise, we dispatched our crack reporters to get you the skinny on what’s going on at local theme parks this holiday season.

And of course, what is the holiday season without shopping? We found a locale that not only has terrific shopping, but excellent restaurants as well! The charming seaside town of Belmont Shore offers eclectic, trendy boutiques along with well known stores. When you’re finished shopping, relax with a great meal at one of more than 50 restaurants.

For lovers of fine art, we visit the Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens. Founded in 1919 by railroad magnate, Henry Edwards Huntington, The Huntington opened to the public in 1928 and contains more than six million manuscripts, books and historical photographs, as well as many world famous works of art, including Gainsborough’s Blue Boy.

We also want to give a thumb’s up to our friends in Indian Wells. Just two hours east, Indian Wells is the home to the LG Skins Games and the world famous Indian Wells Open Tennis Tournament.

Before you head out for a day of exploration, consult your hotel’s Concierge or Guest Services. They are there for you, and will, among other things, help you get to where you’re going safely with the use SoCal’s maps. So go ahead, ASK!

I want to hear from you. Let me know what you would like to see covered in future issues. We read all emails and if your idea is a good one, we’ll run it – comments@welcometosocal.com.

Have the a fantastic holiday vacation in the greatest place on earth - Southern California...
