More than five years in the making, and inspired by J.K. Rowling’s compelling stories and characters that were brought to life in the Warner Bros. films, "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter" has been masterfully recreated at Universal Studios Hollywood.  The land is faithful to the visual landscape of the fiction and films, including Hogwarts castle which serves as its iconic focal point.

Cobblestones line the streets in true British fashion characterizing the charming look of old England, this new land transports guests of all ages to the very places they've read about in J.K Rolling's stories or seen in movies. Hogsmeade bristles with life with the same vibrant hustle and bustle of a quaint English village. Merchants going about their day while patrons peruse the shops. As the train's conductor welcomes another load of passengers, the trains whistle blasts out another belch of air signifying the arrival of enthusiastic Potter fans ready to experience “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey,” and Universal Studios Hollywood’s first outdoor roller coaster, “Flight of the Hippogriff™.”

The new land resonates with immense detail, inviting guests to revel in Harry Potter’s world with the opportunity to enjoy authentic food and beverage at multiple locations, including Three Broomsticks™, and Hog's Head pub, as well as the Magic Neep and Butterbeer™ carts. A foray through the shops adds to the authenticity of the land with eight retail venues and locations, including Honeydukes™, Ollivanders™, Owl Post™, Zonko’s™ Joke Shop, Wiseacre's Wizarding Equipment, Dervish and Banges™, Gladrags Wizardwear and Filch’s Emporium™ of Confiscated Goods.

The gothic charm of Hogsmeade Village has been artfully recreated, with an unwavering commitment to remain faithfully true to the British inspired landscape of the Harry Potter films, including its awe-inspiring centerpiece, Hogwarts castle.

In Harry’s World, Hogwarts castle is old, really old, about 1000 years old. To gain inspiration for the design of Hogwarts, it's been reported the design team looked no further than the medieval castles and cathedrals of the United Kingdom. Designed with a mixture of Romanesque and Medieval gothic revival, designers drew inspiration from Durham Cathedral located in Durham, England. Built in 1093, Durham Cathedral served as a blueprint for most of Hogwarts design elements for everything to the right of the viaduct. In comparing the design of Hogwarts twin Bell Towers to the boxy shape of the twin towers at Durham Cathedral, they appear virtually identical, with the exception of the pointed spires added to the top of the Hogwarts Bell Towers for added visual impact.
