Where to stay near the parks

Where you sleep shapes your whole Disneyland trip — how early you can realistically get to rope drop, whether you can walk back for a midday break, and how much of your budget goes to parking versus everything else. Here's how to compare your options.

Walking distance vs. shuttle distance

Hotels along Harbor Boulevard and around Downtown Disney put you close enough to walk back for a nap or a pool break without losing half a day to travel. Shuttle hotels, usually a mile or two out, trade that convenience for lower nightly rates — worth it if you're comfortable waiting for a shuttle and don't mind a later start each morning. If naps or midday breaks matter for your group, walking distance is worth paying for.

Parking — check before you book

Some Anaheim-area hotels include self-parking in the nightly rate; others charge $25-45 a night on top of it, and valet runs higher still. That fee compounds fast over a multi-night stay, so check it before you compare prices — a slightly higher room rate with free parking can easily beat a cheaper room that adds it back at checkout.

Amenities that actually matter with kids

Not every amenity is worth paying extra for, but a few genuinely change the trip with kids: a mini-fridge for snacks and bottles, blackout curtains for nap time and early bedtimes, and a suite or two-room layout so adults can stay up after younger kids are asleep. A pool with a shallow end or splash area also earns its keep for an easy, low-stakes way to fill an afternoon between park days.

Price versus convenience

The closest hotels to the parks charge a premium for that location, and it's a fair trade-off for a short stay where every hour counts. On a longer trip, a hotel a bit farther out with a free shuttle can stretch your budget further without costing you much real convenience — you're only losing a few minutes each way, not the whole morning. Match the choice to how many days you're staying and how much of each day you plan to spend outside the parks.

There's no single right answer here — it comes down to what your group actually needs from a hotel versus what you're paying extra for. Once you've picked your dates and your base, browse discount Disneyland tickets to finish planning the rest of the trip.
